English: The article reveals the use of alphabet in the writings of two Lithuanian poets. One of the main features of poetry, which uses interpretation of separate letters and the whole alphabet, is the absence of difference between the sound and the letter in a poe m. Alphabet as a text construing principle had been known since the times of the French poet Arthur Rimbaud: in a poem written in French, the world is conceived as letters of the Greek alphabet. Similarly, in the works of the two Lithuanian poets, the system of alphabet reveals itself as the World’s alpha and omega. Separate letters, e.g. letter T, can come close to a pictogram. Letters k, l, m, n, which are in the middle of the Lithuanian alphabet, are given most attention. The interpretation of the collocations of letters in poetry leads to the hidden interpretation of morphemes. Letters can be conceived as the basis of the Universe, while their forced destruction implies negative changes of the world. That is why warnings about the necessity to protect letters appear, as there is an undoubted isomorphism between the alphabet and the structure of the world. The loss of important letters is viewed as the catastrophe of the World. |
